Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a vision correction procedure for the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Like LASIK, PRK uses the Visx Star S4 excimer laser to reshape the cornea; however, tissue is removed from the corneal surface rather than from under a corneal flap. Typically, about 10 to 15 percent of the cornea’s thickness is removed during surgery, and as a result, vision problems are reduced or eliminated.
